Basic information about the study

The follow-up master’s study program of INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT (the title awarded is Ing.) corresponds to current requirements of industrial practice by connecting the study of knowledge with skills in the following areas:

  • Economics and management;
  • Industrial management;
  • Mechanical and electrical engineering.

As it is a professional study program, the emphasis is placed, apart from theoretical teaching, on practical engineering training in industrial environment. Within the study, this takes place in the form of:

  • Engineering practice in specific industrial enterprises;
  • Lectures given by experts from practice;
  • Excursions in facilities of industrial enterprises.

Apart from practical education in the field, it enables students to obtain experience in interpersonal communication and project management in real conditions.

In their subjects teachers make use of modern interactive methods and attitudes (simulations, demonstrations) and put emphasis on connecting theoretical and practical skills. In their subjects they also often use case studies or interactive management games so that students can understand the issues in detail and acquire disciplines and skills necessary for every manager working in international environment.

Within the framework of profile subjects, students acquire a deeper knowledge in a well-balanced combination of the following fields:

  • Management and economics – management economics, international management, creative and innovative management and financial management;
  • Industrial management – production management, supply chain management, quality management tools, industrial information technology;
  • Technical and technological fields – modern automotive production, construction and building of machines, electrical and electronic systems.

Students acquire practical management skills not only within the framework of compulsory professional engineering practice in domestic and international industrial enterprises with global footprint but also thanks to the instruction during which they regularly meet professionals from practice, undergo skill trainings in the school top production and logistics laboratory or participate in regular excursions in facilities of leading industrial manufacturers. The practical experience is further developed by drawing up and defending a thesis focusing on problems closely related to the study programme as the compulsory engineering training.

Thanks to the Erasmus+ programme students can spend one or two semesters at one of more than thirty partner universities of the school. In order to obtain international experience, the Škoda Auto University offers its students also other very interesting projects in destinations like India, South Korea, Vietnam, Israel or USA apart from the Erasmus+ programme.

The study programme is designed for graduates of management and industrial fields, economic and technical fields and technical bachelor fields which are predominantly engineering oriented.

The programme is especially suitable for students who have managed theoretical foundations of industrial management and economics or mechanical engineering and they look for a follow-up study which is practically oriented and leads to acquiring knowledge in real industry practice. The presented study programme represents a direct follow-up for graduates from the Škoda Auto University in the bachelor’s study programme Industrial management.

Graduate profile

The study programme of Industrial management educates professionals who have competencies for management and decision-making in the current market environment both at the theoretical level and at the applied level thanks to professional engineering training and practically oriented subjects. Within the framework of economic and management subjects the study programme covers all key aspects for creating values of business entities, particularly in conditions of mechanical engineering or, to be more precise, in automotive industry (which is the backbone of the Czech economy).

The graduate of the follow-up master’s study programme of Industrial management has knowledge and skills in economics and management, industrial management and industrial technologies, particularly automotive and mechanical engineering technologies.

The fields of general economics and management comprise knowledge and skills of theoretical and applied economic and management sciences, like management economics, management focusing on international business environment and innovations, financial management and corporate accounting, which enable the graduate to understand, evaluate and use the correct terminology to communicate theoretical and practical aspects of business in the environment of market economy.

The field of industrial management encompasses knowledge and skills of the most recent concepts, instruments and methods of production and logistics management, quality management and industrial information technology enabling the graduate to analyse, evaluate, improve, plan and manage processes of an industrial enterprise at the tactical and strategic levels of management. Furthermore, the attention is paid to the complex planning and production management and their resources, managing logistics activities within the framework of supply chain, increasing the quality of business processes and the use of modern information and communication technologies within the framework of effective business management and its supply chain.

The technical and technological part of the programme focuses on knowledge and skills in technically oriented disciplines which are mechanical parts and electric and electronic automobile systems, modern automotive production and machine construction. It is also aimed at design of one-purpose machines, traffic and handling equipment used in manufacturing facilities of automotive industry. The main emphasis is put on physical nature of technical principles used for design and production of automobiles, automobile construction, technical calculations and technological processes of production and assembly of automobiles. These professional competencies in the field of mechanical engineering are complemented by knowledge in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics and automatic steering applied both in the automobiles and in the process of their production.

The graduate of the study programme can also work with computer at advanced level, effectively use available software applications and work with modern communication and information technologies. The graduate is able to clearly and understandably formulate his/her ideas and communicate them in English language, in oral as well as in written form. Moreover, the graduate has extensive social competencies consisting particularly in effective communication and presentation skills, the ability to cooperate and work in a team and problem and conflict solving.

Graduate Employment

The study programme of Industrial management provides the graduate with a complete and professionally oriented master’s education allowing him/her to hold, in manufacturing as well as non-manufacturing enterprises, the position of middle management or top management officer, specialist in professional department or consultant in production management, industrial engineering and management of technical projects of enterprises or in the field of technology management and production automation. In technical positions in the field of mechanical engineering the graduate is able to conduct individual creative activities in the field of design of machine components and their groups, including calculation skills, furthermore he is able to work as a production and assembly technologist and a designer of handling or one-purpose equipment. In technical positions in the field of electrical engineering he is able to perform individual creative activities in the field of design of electrical and electronic automobile systems and equipment used for handling in industrial production.
