Beyond Horizons:Technology and Business World in 21st Century

This year is the 20th anniversary of the founding of SKODA AUTO University. It is an opportunity to look back and look forward. SKODA AUTO Company as the founder and SKODA AUTO University both face, not only challenges to keep-up with the rapid development of technologies and contemporary knowledge, but also how to stay at the peak of the process. On the 14th and 15th of November 2019, we organize an international conference focused on selected topics on impacts of digitalization Beyond Horizons: Technology and Business World in 21st Century. 



Pavel Mertlík

Rector of ŠKODA AUTO University

Pavel Mertlík is a leading Czech economist. In 1998 – 2001 he served as the Deputy Prime Minister and, since 1999 to 2001, the Minister of Finance. After the government, he spent 11 years as Raiffeisenbank’s Chief Economist. He has been the Rector of ŠKODA AUTO University since 2015. He specialises in micro- and macroeconomics, institutional economics, economic policy, and the history of economic thought.

Bernhard Maier


Mr Maier is driving the company’s reorientation under Strategy 2025. In addition to electromobility and digitalisation, key aspects of the strategy include new mobility services and connectivity, implementing a large-scale product campaign and the brand’s internationalisation.

Corinne Hoisington

Professor of Information Systems Technology at Central Virginia Community College, Virginia USA

Prof. Hoisington travels the globe delivering keynote addresses to college and university professors, Customers include the Microsoft Corporation, Cengage Learning and Capital One International Bank, and Executive LIVE. She is the recipient of the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional award in Computer Programming and authored over 30 textbooks on computing.

Zdeněk Čech

Deputy Head of the European Commission Representation in Czech Republic.

Zdeněk Čech, has many years of experience in international finance. Beginning at the Czech National Bank in 1997, he has since worked at the European Commission, as a Ministerial Deputy of the Minister of Finance and also co-operated with the IMF. In 2013, he was appointed Senior Economist. Since 2016, he has been the Deputy Head of the European Commission Representation in Czech Republic.

Erskin Blunck

Vice-Dean, Faculty of Agribusiness, Economics and Management, Program Director MBA International Management, Professor for International Management, Nürtingen-Geislingen University, Germany

Teacher, researcher and academic manager in international management, sustainability strategy management and international marketing. He runs the MBA programme in International Management, taught completely in English, and belongs to the university’s internationalisation team.

Ingo Gestring

Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, Professor for Logistics and Production Management, HTW Dresden University of Applied Sciences, Germany Prof. Gestring has a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Leibniz University in Hanover, Germany 

At HTW, he is the chair of Logistics and Production Management. He teaches at the bachelor’s and master’s level, focussing on the students’ international education. His main areas are lean management/logistics, sustainable SCM, automotive logistics and digitalisation of value chains.

Franz Staberhofer

Vice-Rector, University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, Austria Director of studies ILM – International Logistics Management and SCM – Supply Chain Management General Manager of Logistikum – Department of Logistics at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria

A graduate from Montan University, Prof. Staberhofer is currently the Director of Studies at University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, Director of LOGISTIKUM, chairman of the Association for Network Logistics and a consultant for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. His research areas cover SCM, world water management and supply chain design among many others and has published widely on these topics.

Jana Šrámová

HR Executive, ŠKODA AUTO, a.s.

Jana holds a master’s degree in Finance from the University of Economics in Prague. Her work experience has been enriched by her time at ŠKODA AUTO, where she started with a focus on internal auditing and finance. From 2005–2011, Jana worked as Head of Accounting. From 2011–2015, she worked as Executive Director at ŠKODA AUTO DEUTSCHLAND, a subsidiary of ŠKODA AUTO, a.s.

Michael Solomon

Professor of Marketing, Haub School of Business, Saint Joseph’s University, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

Michael combines cutting-edge academic theory with actionable real-world strategies. He is a keynote speaker and the author of 30+ books on marketing, consumer behaviour, advertising and social media. Learn more at

Sharon Vondra Thach

Professor of Marketing and Supply Chain in the Business Administration Department, College of Business, Tennessee State University, Tennessee, USA.

Research includes Arts Marketing, Intellectual Property, Strategic Brand Management, Exporting, and Ethics. Published in International Marketing Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Industrial Marketing Management, The Journal of Product Innovation Management, among others. On the Editorial Boards: Journal of Business Ethics, International Marketing Review, and Journal of Export Marketing.

Itzhak Swary

Chairman of A.G. Trust

Prof. Swary has a wealth of experience, both academic and professional, in areas as diverse as banking, real estate and the automotive industry. Beyond these roles, he has served on a number of committees in his home country and is the author of five books and over fifty articles in the field of banking, mergers and acquisitions and financial deregulation.


The Central Technical Service Department provides a wide range of professional activities at ŠKODA AUTO. It includes e.g. methodology of safety management of machines and equipment, setting internal technical standards, acceptance of machinery, inspection of selected technological equipment, special diagnostics, metrology, tribodiagnostics, SAP system support, machinery repairs through external suppliers and internal capacities.

MONTANA, s. r. o. Mladá Boleslav has experienced significant development since its foundation in 1993. Thanks to the professional work of nearly 80 employees, its own technological base in Mladá Boleslav and the provision of value-added services, a small company has been able to become a prominent industrial automation supplier of international importance.
